Donating to Furnicare

Who are we?

"Helping us to help others"

Furnicare was originally established as a furniture reuse project in 1992. In 2016 we came under the umbrella of Somerset Care and Repair and as such have recently renovate our premises and rebranded ourselves to celebrate our 25th year of trading and the merger with SC&R.

Our aim is to provide a free collection service for good quality unwanted household furniture, electrical items and general household items which we then sell at reasonable prices to our members.

Membership is available to local residents of South Somerset and the surrounding areas who are in receipt of means tested benefits or on a low annual income.

Our showroom, based in Goldcroft, Yeovil displays all of our current stock including sofas beds and white goods with new stock being added daily.

Furnicare has four core objectives;

1.Provide low cost, quality goods to individuals and families on a low income

2. Reduce waste going to landfill

3. Encourage local people to reuse and recycle unwanted furniture, homewares and electrical items

4. Provide opportunities for training and development in a working environment to those who need some help and support

Donating to Furnicare

How can i donate?

Furnicare take any good quality furniture, house hold appliances* and brick-a-brac that is no longer needed.

If you live in South Somerset or the surrounding area please give us a call or email us to discuss your donation and arrange a convenient collection time with yourself. We also accept dropped off donations provided they are within our opening hours. Please don't dump items outside after closing.

Our collection service is FREE however please be aware our collections team cannot accept heavy items unless they are on the ground floor.

Please note all upholstered furniture, including mattresses, ottomans and divan bed-bases, must have a fire label attached. Sofas and chairs will read "Complies with the furniture and furnishings regulations 1988"

Mattresses and bed bases must have a label referring either to British standards number 6907 or 7177 sewn on by the manufacturer. An example of how these labels should look are shown below.

Gift Aid

As a not-for-profit company we are registered for Gift Aid, this means that if you are a taxpayer and are happy to sign a gift aid form we can claim back 25p back for every £1 donated.

This small gesture goes along way in helping the project keep running and we greatly appreciate those who are willing to sign up. For more information click on the gift aid logo


What kind of things do you take?

What items do you accept?

Furnicare takes a whole range of items, the best way to find out whether we will collect your items is to call us first. However below is a small selection of some of the most common items we collect;

- Sofas - 2 and 3 piece

- Beds - king, queen, double, bunk, single

- Dining tables and chair (sets)

- Coffee tables

- Fridges

- Electrical items (items larger than a microwave must be working and disconnected)

- TV stands

- Chests of drawers

- Bric-a-brac (books, clothing, DVDs, etc.)

- Bed linen (clean)

- Mattresses (unmarked and undamaged)

- Lots, lots more!
